The city grew sevenfold in a few years
Large annexations in the late 1950s helped take Huntington Beach from 3.57 square miles to more than 25 by 1960, and by the 1970s tract after tract covered former farmland. The city's General Plan report places many of those tracts north and east of Edwards Hill and south of Beach Boulevard. In the 92647 zip code, census estimates show a median build year of 1970, with about 44 percent of homes built in the 1960s alone.
