Built at 50 houses a day
Lakewood is the postwar planned city that the Lakewood Park Company built on about 3,500 acres starting in 1950, putting up 17,500 houses at roughly 50 a day, according to the LA County Library's local history. The homes were two- and three-bedroom designs built to Veterans Administration specifications. Census estimates put the median year built at 1957, and about 80% of units are detached houses. Original plumbing from that rush is now around 70 years old.
